Hiking Season is Here!

Finally!  The weather has been getting nicer, the snow has been melting, and I have been getting more and more excited each and every day.  Paloma and I have been working out quite a bit at the gym to make sure that we are in better shape for the start of this hiking season.  We have been frequent users of the "StairMaster" at the gym which will hopefully help us on some of the steep mountains we have on our agenda to climb this season.

Paloma bought me a Kindle for my birthday a few weeks ago and I have been reading "AWOL on the Appalachian Trail," a vivid account of the author's (David Miller) thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail.  I am about halfway through the book and I can't seem to put it down.  He does a great job at describing everything from the trail to his fellow hikers, feelings, etc.  It is just what I need to read to get me ready for the upcoming season.  Maybe someday I will have a chance to conquer the Appalachian Trail.  It is a really great book and I highly recommend it to everyone.

We have scheduled our first hike of the season for May 19th, where we will be setting of to hike Mt. Moriah way up on Rte. 16.  Paloma and I will be joined by my parents, and potentially Joe and Julie as well.  I am greatly looking forward to this hike, as are my parents, as they have never hiked Moriah.  The trail reports look like it should be free from snow, though I do anticipate it might be quite muddy up there.

I am excited to finally be able to get this blog back up and running.  By the looks of it, I will hopefully be able  to nail down fifteen or so more peaks this season!

Thanks for reading, more to come following the hike up Mt. Moriah!

    1. I am about exactly half way through - hasn't made it up to my "neighborhood" (aka the New England mountains) so I am looking forward to continuing to read it.

      Thanks for reading my blog!

    1. Not yet, though that is next on my list! I have heard great things. It will be interesting to hear the two different accounts of the hike!

      Thanks for reading my blog!
